Photographic Works, Birmingham

Located in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter, Photographic Works is a 50-strong development of one, two, and three-bedroom apartments.

Halligan Consulting Engineers (Halligans) provided building services consultancy from concept to completion, including design stage SAP calculations, production of performance specifications, and tender drawings.

Halligans’ work included rerouting incoming supplies from the original building to serve the new accommodation. The dwellings feature boosted cold-water supply, domestic hot water, electric heating, mechanical ventilation above ground drainage, automatic controls, sprinklers, lighting, small power, fire alarms, smoke ventilation, telecoms and TV systems. Roof-mounted PV systems were also provided to meet building regulations. The mechanical and electrical specifications were coordinated with the architects and interior design company.    

During construction, Halligans oversaw design and installation, reviewing drawings produced by the sub-contractors, to ensure compliance with client requirements, current regulations and best practice. Halligans also carried out site inspections and witnessing of testing commissioning prior to handover.
